Taiwan competes in National Geographic World Championship in late July

This year’s National Geographic World Championship will take place on July 27 at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.  Students representing 18 countries will begin arriving on July 23 and start competing on July 24. The final round will pit three teams against each other in a game-show format similar to “Jeopardy!” In fact, the quiz show will by hosted by Alex Trebek of “Jeopardy!”

The three students from Taiwan are all 14 years old and will compete under Chinese Taipei. The talented geographers are Chen-luo Cheng, Po-chen Chu and Tong-hong Hsu. They will pit their knowledge against some of the brightest geography students (ages 13 to 16 years old) from around the world.

Started in 1993, the World Championship takes place every two years in different countries. For more information about the National Geographic World Championship, please visit www.nationalgeographic.com/worldchampionship.
